Yesterday as I was browsing through my Google Analytics I took a quick glance at the referring sites that have sent visitors to my site and I was somewhat surprised at the results. There was one backlink from a blog that talked about Sheeps and Matlab GUIs and there was another backlink from a site dedicated to “Sheep Tag”. Quite bizarre indeed. So I thought it would be interesting to trace all the incoming links to this website using the Google Webmaster Tool. If you’re too lazy to set up the webmaster tool, you can just go here instead.

Apparently, backlinks are quite the big thing these days in SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The more backlinks you have from quality sites, the more relevance will be attached to your site from the search engine. Anyhow, of all the backlinks that this site has, only one of them comes from a site with any type of pagerank. And this backlink comes from the brother of my website partner, so that doesn’t really count.

This site hasn’t been up for too long, but the number of backlinks (albeit backlinks from sites with no pagerank) are astonishing. I spent a couple minutes visiting these sites that linked to here just out of curiosity and I must say that it was quite entertaining. I suggest that all you other bloggers do the same. It’s quite interesting to see who is linking to you!
