Beauty Products have never been my thing. I always figured that anti-aging creme and youth elixirs were the stuff that my mom and her friends would be utilizing. But on one fateful night, after I emerged from the shower, I noticed that my face felt extremely dry.

I shared my observation with my friend Elizabeth (pictured below) the next day, and she warned me that I needed to moisturize my face or I would look like an old man in no time. Never being one to care too much about that, I promptly informed her that I had a large container of Lubriderm Lotion that I bought from Costco. Her incredulous reaction hinted that I wasn’t supposed to use that stuff on my face. She insisted on getting me some superior beauty products and I begrudgingly agreed.

Taking one for the Team

I would like to think that I am doing a favor for all male Engineers by taking part in this little moisturizing experiment. Some people might see me as a sissy, a douche bag, or other unfortunate names. But I am taking the plunge for all you other male engineers out there who are too afraid (or ignorant) to try out such beauty products for your own betterment. For all you Engineers out there who have been using Lubriderm, Jergens, or any other body lotion on their face, I hope my dive into the beauty world gives you a perspective on things.

For the very cheap price of $100.00 (yes, you read correctly. Elizabeth insisted that it was quite the bargain actually), she got me the following items:

From left to right:

  1. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 - use during the day to keep your face moisturized while also protecting your face from the sun’s harmful rays
  2. Kiehl’s Rare Earth Oatmeal Milk Facial Cleanser - use this to wash face in the morning and night. The first step to nice skin is clean skin!
  3. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream - use at night time on face. (Why do I need two different facial creams?)
  4. Kiehl’s Lip Balm - use daily to prevent chapped lips. This one is a no brainer.
  5. Cryste Marine Firming Eye Treatment - use at night time around the eyes. Apparently the eyes are the area must susceptible to wrinkles. Gotta have special moisturizer for these problem areas.

Was it Worth It?

My initial reaction to these 5 items was to ask myself, “Is it really worth it?”. After using these products for two days, I can’t really say. Going from a routine wherein I never washed my face or moisturized it, to a meticulous routine of washing face, applying moisturizer, and applying eye cream cramps my routine and has me wondering if it’s really worth it. I will provide an update in the near future.
