It’s not everyday that you get to face off against a Chess grandmaster. A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go up against Susan Polgar, considered by many to be the greatest female chess player ever. Being that I am a recreational chess player at best, I did not put up much resistance. The match ended in less than an hour. Lasting an hour against Susan would have been quite the accomplishment, except she was playing against 14 other people simultaneously when she was playing against me!

And if that didn’t sound impressive enough, Susan holds the record for number of simultaneous games played with the highest winning percentage. She went up against 326 players and achieved the following results: 309 wins, 14 draws and 3 losses = 96.93% winning percentage. Thus, I imagine that playing against 15 people was a walk in the park for her.

For those of you who are curious, I was the third one out of fifteen to lose. I lost in about 22 moves. In all, it took her about 50 minutes to beat all of us. Very amazing!!! If you have the time, you should look into her history a bit, as it is quite intriguing. Susan also has two younger sisters who also excel at chess.
