ilovepigs_1.gifYouTube, MySpace, Ebay . . . all great ideas. Sometimes I ask myself “Why didn’t I think of that myself?” I’m sure everyone and their mother ask themselves the same thing. It’s amazing that such simple but powerful ideas developed into multi-million web assets. It seems like anyone could have thought of these ideas! It’s because of these wildly crazy success stories in addition to wildly successful bloggers (the hated John Chow and the lovable Darren Rowse come to mind) that peons like myself have dreams of some day making it big in the blogging/internet world. All that is required is to develop some new innovative web app, and Google will come swooping in with a hundred million dollar offer!

Unfortunately, the next great idea is fleeting until someone else comes up with it. Then it’s back to “Why didn’t I think of that?” A couple months ago when my friend and I started this website; we had dreams of creating a great tutorial resource that would someday catch the eye of Google, making us instant millionaires. It’s nice to dream big, but I think we still have a long way to go. Right now, I think we’ll settle for developing our readership and perhaps make a few pennies on the side when/if we start monetizing our site. It has become apparent that thinking of a great idea is only part of the battle. Implementing said idea is also extremely difficult and includes multiple trials and tribulations. The only rewards we receive at the moment are subscribers to the site and visitors who leave encouraging comments. If not for the comments we receive, I think this site would be discontinued by now.

A great website that I discovered recently is Songza. You can find almost any song on here and it has a very simple interface that won’t bog you down. When I saw this site, I thought it was pretty amazing, and I immediately thought . . . “Why didn’t I think of this?!” Such a simple idea, but yet so good. Word on the street is that Google and Microsoft are in a heated battle to buy the rights to this.
