The most recent version of DotA Client has been released as of 2/18/2008.

The most recent program that promises to reduce delay and latency is DotA Client. DotA Client claims to reduce latency even further than ListChecker and GGC. I have played a few games using the default setting (90ms), but my friends tell me that its just about the same as LC (100ms). I will play some games as a host using dota client to see how it works out, and I’ll post my results here.

Installation is a breeze. In addition to all this, DotA Client also does a bunch of other neat things like stat tracking and anti-hacking.

  1. Install dota client
  2. Run dota client
  3. Sign on to battle.net
  4. Follow the on screen instructions!

All the information below applies to the 1.72 beta version. The latest version has an even easier installation interface.

  1. After you download it, install the program. It is not required that you restart after installation (at least I didn’t have to). Also, you DO NOT need winpcap for this program to work, which is nice because winpcap seems to cause some trouble for ListChecker users.

  2. Open up the program, and you should see the following:

    Dota Client Log

In addition, you should see this at the lower right hand of your screen

    Dota Client Menu

  3. Next, open up Warcraft III, and sign onto Battle.net

Once you do this, you should see the following in your DotA Client service Log.

    Updated Dota Client Log

  4. Now, since most of you probably don’t play DXD league, you should probably change the server setting to “DotA Gaming Network Prime”

    Change Server

If you don’t, you would have to use the !setmatch command before you start the game or you will run into this error shown in the image below. But like I mentioned, this is more geared towards dxd league games, so I would just switch the server.

    !setmatch error

  5. And that’s it. Now you can create games like you normally would on battle.net with much reduced latency. This is much easier than installing listchecker. The recommended latency is 90ms for this program, which is the default. You can change the latency via the “Game Hosting Latency” option as shown in the image below:

    extreme latency

  6. The extreme setting isn’t really recommended and can be unstable, but I used it a couple times and it seems to work okay for me. Then again, I have a fiber optic connection so that probably makes it a little more stable.
